Look Web Hosting Before You Leap

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Companies that offer Internet-connected servers that provide space and bandwidth for a domain, for one or more web sites, are called Web Hosts. Large companies have private networks that allow them to host domains on their own equipment and IP address range. But for the majority of those who want an Internet presence, a ‘rented’ web host is a necessity.

There are a wide variety of hosting plans available. Some are free, others charge up to a $100 or more per month. Some provide nothing but a tiny amount of disk space and minimal network bandwidth. The web site owner is on his or her own for any thing else. Others offer a range of services, including server and email administration, backups, web site design assistance, troubleshooting and many others.

In the world of web hosting, you may often find yourself sharing a server with anywhere from one to a thousand or more other web sites. That allows the web hosting company to keep equipment and staff expenses lower. Many web sites are simple and low-volume enough that the arrangement works fine. When you or one or more of the others grow, it may be helpful to consider a dedicated server.

A dedicated server, as the name suggests, hosts only your domain. You can put one web site on it, or as many as you wish. You control the access. You may also, as an option, take over much of the server administration yourself. That may save you money on support costs, but cost you considerable time. If you don’t have the expertise, you can end up costing yourself much more than you save.

In order to carry out those administrative functions yourself, even if you hire help, it’s desirable to have some technical knowledge under your belt. Some of that knowledge will be useful, even for day-to-day tasks apart from dealing with emergencies. FTP, email administration, backup methods and other technical areas are among the more common areas you’ll need to be at least somewhat familiar with.

When your web site grows to a certain size and level of complexity, you’ll begin to find it worthwhile to look at implementing a database. But that brings with it a still higher level of ability, both technical and logistical or creative.

Implementing a database can be relatively simple. Designing one that provides what you want, with decent performance and maintenance that doesn’t become a nightmare, will take some careful thought. Not everyone has the temperament for that type of work, especially those who prefer graphical design, content creation or development, and the many other web site tasks that are part of every implementation.

There are other, more low level administrative matters. Managing disk space, maintaining domain names, dealing with registration and changes, and a number of other ‘utilitarian’ tasks are also not everyone’s cup of tea. Some understanding of how DNS works, as well as the design of the Internet itself, are helpful. That provides a good context for understanding the role of some of those tasks.

When you begin to seek out a web host to implement a web site, consider all these factors and look in the mirror. What kind of web hosting you should pursue is determined by a combination of who you are and what’s being offered. Look before you leap.

Web Site Developing And Web Hosting

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

You want to start an online business but you don’t know the first thing about starting a website let alone managing an e-commerce business. What about advertising, such as driving traffic to your site? Who is going to manage all of this? You have the business plan, the initiative and the ambition but you just don’t have the know how it takes to get your online business off the ground. Don’t worry, there are many others out there just like you. They have the idea for their business but they let someone else do the web work for them. These business owners usually end up turning to a website design and hosting company.

A website design and hosting company will design your website for you according to your specifications. They will then set up the capabilities to advertise your product as well as to let others buy your product online using a credit or debit card. The website design and hosting company makes it easy to run your business without having to know the first thing about computers and website design.

A Consultation

When deciding on the website design and hosting company you are going to go with, do your research. Don’t just pick the first name you see in the phone book. When you’re choosing your website design and hosting company, ask to see examples of their previous work. By going to those sites, you can see if the company lives up to its claim. You need to know what to look for and you need to know how to weed out the good website design and hosting companies from the bad.

What To Look Out For

When you’re viewing examples of websites from the company you’re trying to decide whether or not you want to go with, look for a few things that will help you determine if the company and its designers know what they’re doing. First, look for ease of use. What colors did they choose? Is the website easy to look at and is it easy to navigate? What about the products they are offering? Are they displayed with good artwork and good marketing tactics? Most importantly, when looking at examples of the company’s work, does it make you want to buy the product they’re offering? That’s the most important thing you should look for. After all, if the website is no good and your product doesn’t look tempting, then your business won’t succeed.

Shop around, do your homework and find the best website design and hosting company in your area. It’s your business so this is a very important choice that shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Real Estate Hosting: A Good Way To Advertise Your Home

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

If you are a real estate agent and you just can’t seem to get your name or reputation out there, why not consider the internet? There are many companies who would love to help you with your real estate web hosting. With real estate web hosting, you put up a website that has your name and contact information, a listing of homes you are trying to sell as well as all kinds of information about those homes, such as deals, nearby schools and parks and much more. There’s nothing else like the internet to really make your real estate business blow up.

Handle Multiple Business At Once

Before real estate web hosting, real estate agents could only handle one customer at a time. They would show the house, give the information and, if someone else wanted information, they would have to wait until the agent was done with the first customer. With real estate web hosting, handling multiple customers is so easy. Many people can log onto your website at once and they can view houses, they can view prices and so much more. It’s almost like cloning yourself many times over to handle as many customers as you can while you only have to sit back and keep up with those clients when you can.

Virtual Tours

When a real estate agent has to show a house, they will usually take someone to that location and show them around. This limits the amount of customers they can handle at one time. They usually don’t give group tours so that limits the amount of sales they can handle. With real estate web hosting, you can put virtual tours of the houses you have available on your website so that many people can view the houses at once without even being there. Virtual tours offer photos and videos from all different angles, just as if they were right there, in the house.

Of course, real estate web hosting is only the tip of the iceberg. Real estate web hosting will not usually get you sales. Rather, it’s meant to weed out the people who are interested from those who aren’t. It makes it much easier to manage your time as you can focus your attention on those who are truly interested after looking at your website. So, if you’re a real estate agent and you are looking to increase your exposure while making your job easier, look into real estate web hosting today!
