Blue Host Guide

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Bluehost, one of the oldest web hosting companies has gone through a lot of changes in the last few months. They have increased the space, bandwidth and no of domains per account to match the best offer in the industry while keeping the price cheap. Now they offer unlimited domains and resources to match. If you are looking to host multiple domains and want the assurance of a reliable host, bluehost is a great option.

Bluehost also have top quality infrastructure and wide range of protection mechanisms including DDOS protection and power backup services.

The guys from IM Cash Saver have been able to get their hands on one of the best bluehost coupon codes you will be able find anywhere online, head to IM Cash Saver to learn more and save over 50% on your next blue host account today.

Like a lot of cPanel hosts, BlueHost supports addon domains. I set up a few addon domains, and everything worked well, and without any problems. BlueHost doesn’t allow SSH/Shell Access by default, but says it will enable shell access for your account if you fax a copy of your driver’s license, passport, etc. to them. I installed some basic scripts (a blog, a CMS, a forum) without any problems. Speed was about average, and BlueHost seems to keep up in terms of software updates and the like.

All and all, BlueHost seems like a good web host. The company certainly has their act together and by all means can be labelled as a top quality web host with great features and support.

We are now in the ‘unlimited’ era of hosting where we no longer need to bother about disk space and bandwidth. When I started a picture site a decade ago, I was given only 1GB of bandwidth and I had to pay .90/month for it! Today, you can get unlimited bandwidth from BlueHost and other web hosts for under /month. There’s no more limit.

Unlike its competitors, Bluehost offers only one web hosting plan (the professional web hosting plan), so that it can streamline its process and focus on customer support.  For the cost of .95 per month for the professional hosting plan, Bluehost includes unlimited disk space, unlimited file transfer bandwidth, unlimited number of domain hosting, over 2500 POP email accounts, free site building software, and an unparalleled technical support staff that is available live 24/7. This plan is truly the best hosting plan available in the industry. Memory — As with processing power, a server’s memory is critical to the performance of your website.  The lower the memory, the less the server can handle.

Most hosting plans that are offered to the individual webmasters, to the small business or even to some medium-sized businesses, are typically hosted on a shared server.  This means that the individual website that you have in your possession is hosted on the same server as hundreds of other domains from other individuals and businesses.  The result of sharing a server is that you are sharing the same traffic lanes ( for lack of better words ) with the hundreds of other domains sitting on the same server.  As soon as your traffic increases beyond your allotted amount for the month, the web hosting provider will begin to charge you extra fees for the added bandwidth that it must dedicate to your website.  In some cases, we’ve heard of horror stories where the hosting provider would go as far as disable your website so that it is not placing a heavy burden on the server in question.  What this means for you is that you will lose the opportunity to make sales if your website has been disabled or is down.  In most cases, the hosting provider would try to coax you into leasing one of its dedicated servers or a virtual private server (VPS), where you would be given more bandwidth to use per month.  Of course, a dedicated server will cost you as much as 9/month compared to a shared hosting plan from BlueHost that only charges you .95/month. So to review Bluehost’s offerings to its competition in terms of cost, it is a no-brainer.

Blue Host Review site hosting Services

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Company Background

Web hosting supplier, Blue Host founded in 1996 has been successfully hosting over 825,000 domains comprising of thousands of individuals, and tiny to big business websites.  As a sister company to Hostmonster and Fastdomain, together they provide hosting to over 980,000 domains and are on schedule to damage the 1,000,000 domain mark by late 2009.  Blue Host specializes in shopper satisfaction and will bend right over to ensure its clients are happy.  Blue Host offers a single hosting solution that is meant to meet the wants of people with simple websites to those companies with complicated needs requiring complicated e-commerce features.  The company is able to attract and maintain buyers at both ends of the spectrum by simply providing good service at a particularly competitive cost.

Company Technology

Blue Host uses exclusively linux based servers ( now totalling 750 servers and growing ).  All servers used for shared hosting services are CentOS ( Redhat corporation Linux ).  Bluehost servers are hi-performance quad core processors, all housed in air conditioned state-of-the-art datacenters that are protected by UPS power backup, including diesel generator backup power.  The network infrastructure are under a twenty-four / 7 monitoring system with continuing storage backup capabilities to make sure that information isn’t lost.

Blue Host Features and Pricing

The features Blue Host provides seem pretty standard ( nothing lacking ) with all the anticipated features of an Internet website host such as cPanel, multiple database support, FTP, e-mail, and so on.  BlueHost’s one ( the only one I could find, at least ) package features unlimited diskspace, and unlimited bandwidth.  There is a controlled number of databases ( fifty each for MySQL and Postgre ) and more FTP and e-mail accounts than you could ever use ( one thousand and 2500, respectively ).  Unlimited numbers of addon domains, parked domains, and subdomains are given.  Pricing varies depending how long you enroll in :

* a quarter : $9.95 / month + $30.00 Setup + Domain ( $10.00 if purchased from BlueHost )
* six Months : $8.95 / month + $30.00 Setup + Domain ( $10.00 if purchased from BlueHost )
* twelve Months : $7.95 / month ( no set-up charge, free domain included )
* two years : $6.95 / month ( no set-up charge, free domain included )

I have never been a huge fan of at least 3 months contract, and you do have to click around ( to the second step in their order process, basically ) just to discover the cost.  Ignoring the minimum contract length, pricing is kind of competitive.

Blue Host Support

I called their support department using their toll-free number.  I was talking to someone inside about 30 seconds after dialing.  I asked some basic questions : Do you support mod_rewrite ( Yes ), do you support mod_security ( failed to know, but checked ), and do you keep your Fantastico up-to-date with the latest versions ( Yes ) ?  Support was nice enough, and keep to grasp what they were talking about.  The representative manifestly wasn’t reading from a prompt ( no delay with answers ).

Pros : Good control panel ( cPanel ) with a few nice extras,
Lots of space and bandwidth, good support, fair pricing

Cons : Semi-shady points in TOS ( nothing too major, and clearly outlined ), three month minimum contract length, pricing is relatively difficult to find

Bottomline : BlueHost is a good web host that provides a good hosting experience with a top-of-the-line control panel as well as useful support for a reasonable price.
