Blue Host Review site hosting Services
Saturday, September 19th, 2009Company Background
Web hosting supplier, Blue Host founded in 1996 has been successfully hosting over 825,000 domains comprising of thousands of individuals, and tiny to big business websites. As a sister company to Hostmonster and Fastdomain, together they provide hosting to over 980,000 domains and are on schedule to damage the 1,000,000 domain mark by late 2009. Blue Host specializes in shopper satisfaction and will bend right over to ensure its clients are happy. Blue Host offers a single hosting solution that is meant to meet the wants of people with simple websites to those companies with complicated needs requiring complicated e-commerce features. The company is able to attract and maintain buyers at both ends of the spectrum by simply providing good service at a particularly competitive cost.
Company Technology
Blue Host uses exclusively linux based servers ( now totalling 750 servers and growing ). All servers used for shared hosting services are CentOS ( Redhat corporation Linux ). Bluehost servers are hi-performance quad core processors, all housed in air conditioned state-of-the-art datacenters that are protected by UPS power backup, including diesel generator backup power. The network infrastructure are under a twenty-four / 7 monitoring system with continuing storage backup capabilities to make sure that information isn’t lost.
Blue Host Features and Pricing
The features Blue Host provides seem pretty standard ( nothing lacking ) with all the anticipated features of an Internet website host such as cPanel, multiple database support, FTP, e-mail, and so on. BlueHost’s one ( the only one I could find, at least ) package features unlimited diskspace, and unlimited bandwidth. There is a controlled number of databases ( fifty each for MySQL and Postgre ) and more FTP and e-mail accounts than you could ever use ( one thousand and 2500, respectively ). Unlimited numbers of addon domains, parked domains, and subdomains are given. Pricing varies depending how long you enroll in :
* a quarter : $9.95 / month + $30.00 Setup + Domain ( $10.00 if purchased from BlueHost )
* six Months : $8.95 / month + $30.00 Setup + Domain ( $10.00 if purchased from BlueHost )
* twelve Months : $7.95 / month ( no set-up charge, free domain included )
* two years : $6.95 / month ( no set-up charge, free domain included )
I have never been a huge fan of at least 3 months contract, and you do have to click around ( to the second step in their order process, basically ) just to discover the cost. Ignoring the minimum contract length, pricing is kind of competitive.
Blue Host Support
I called their support department using their toll-free number. I was talking to someone inside about 30 seconds after dialing. I asked some basic questions : Do you support mod_rewrite ( Yes ), do you support mod_security ( failed to know, but checked ), and do you keep your Fantastico up-to-date with the latest versions ( Yes ) ? Support was nice enough, and keep to grasp what they were talking about. The representative manifestly wasn’t reading from a prompt ( no delay with answers ).
Pros : Good control panel ( cPanel ) with a few nice extras,
Lots of space and bandwidth, good support, fair pricing
Cons : Semi-shady points in TOS ( nothing too major, and clearly outlined ), three month minimum contract length, pricing is relatively difficult to find
Bottomline : BlueHost is a good web host that provides a good hosting experience with a top-of-the-line control panel as well as useful support for a reasonable price.
