Web Hosting Services - Who Writes The Reviews

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

I have never actually written a review about a product I have bought. And nobody I know has every reviewed a product either. They just buy things and if they don’t like them they complain to the company. I don’t see why I should be praising a company for doing something that they are supposed to be doing anyway especially if I am paying for something. I can’t imagine that many people who actually use web hosting would be taking the time to write a review on the service so I am beginning to wonder who does actually write these reviews.

Now I know that some people do write reviews on absolutely everything and look at this as some sort of hobby. I would say though that these people are in the minority and not representative of web host users as a whole. This could mean that reading their reviews of things like web hosts may not be representative of how the majority of people feel I could be wrong here. So remember that the next time you read a web hosting review, it was probably written by the person who will write a review for absolutely everything that they buy.

And you also need to be aware that there is another type of review writer that you may come across - the web hosting providers themselves. I can’t blame them for this practice because if I was trying to promote a product or service I would do the same. Apparently it is not only common for people to write reviews praising their own efforts, but also to write scathing reviews of the competition’s products.

This all means that those web hosting reviews we read might be of very limited value or maybe that is just me being a bit cynical.

Anybody thinking about venturing into internet marketing should have web hosting sorted out. But the world of web hosting can be confusing. For example, you may come across free web hosting or even dedicated servers while searching different options.

Your Online Reputation Can Be Damaged With A Bad Choice In Web Hosting

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

A couple of years back I was a member of a popular web forum. This site was really good and there were quite a number of great contributors. One day though I logged on to the site to find out that all the content was missing; thousands of posts and articles had just disappeared. And the worse thing of all was the fact that a note on the site explained that there was no way to replace the data - that it was all gone forever. Although the view of most people was that the web hosting provider was to blame in this case, many people also felt that back ups shoudl have been done by the website owner or he should at least have made sure that they were being done. And although we all knew that the site owner had been let down by the web host, it was the reputation of the website owner that bore the full brunt of the situation. He later tried to re-launch the site but it was never the same again; these days it’s like a ghost town.

This is an extreme example but choosing the wrong web hosting option could really ruin your chances of building a good online reputation. There are more problems which could happen with a bad web host such as the fact that your pages could take an eternity to load or your site could be constantly affected by downtime and these have the result of putting visitors off. And sometimes if this happens you can get a bad reputation online and if this occurs it is hard to come back from it. There are just too many competing options online to give people more than one chance.

As you can see web hosting is important for your online reputation and choosing wrongly could harm you. It pays to take your time and find something that will allow you to show your worth to visitors; you can have the best content in the world and still suffer because of poor web hosting.

Anybody thinking about venturing into internet marketing should have web hosting sorted out. But the world of web hosting can be confusing. For example, you may come across free web hosting or even dedicated servers while searching different options.

What Is SQL And Web Hosting All About

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Those who are just getting to know about web hosting may still be a little bit confused about some of the terms they have come across. The frequent references to SQL really can leave some people dumbfounded. What is this SQL and what does it have to do with web hosting? Fortunately one of the best places to find information on any topic is the internet and this is what I found there.

SQL explained

SQL is short for Sructured Query Language. It is a database language that is used for managing data within databases. It was developed in the 1970s by IBM and was originally called SEQUEL. Different language elements are included within SQL including queries, expressions, statements, predicates and clauses. And in order to manipulate the data, these various factors are used.

What has SQL got to do with Web Hosting?

If you want to add or retrieve data from a database then it helps to be able to understand a bit about SQL. Of course these days things are made really simple and the vast majority of those who just want to have a website will have no need to become proficient at SQL. Knowing a few of the basics can be good though because it allows you to get more from databases. You might be surprised to learn that you already use SQL; select, create, drop, delete, insert, and update are all SQL commands.

When those involved with web hosting talk about things like SQL it can make the rest of us feel like outsiders. It is not that difficult to understand though, and just having a basic understanding can help us feel comfortable around such conversations. Once you have learnt a little bit about SQL you can then impress your friends by making occasional references to it; they will think you are a real computer whizz.

Whenever you make your decision to enter the big, bad world of internet marketing, you should really have hosting sorted out. The web hosting world can be a confusing one though for a newbie. For example, you may come across free web hosting or even dedicated servers on your travels.
