Questions About Web Hosting

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

When looking to purchase web hosting for the first time there are a few things you need to weigh out. First I will assume that you have already ruled out free web hosting.  Free hosting can be a good option for many but paid hosting is much better overall-Using free hosting can be okay but with the small costs paid hosting is a better option.

As you look into hosting you need to know what your websites are going to offer.  Such as if you are going to work with proxies you must back sure the host will allow them.  With proxies you need to get a hosting company specifically for them.  With most other sites you will be good with any type of hosts. You need to have a general idea on how much traffic you are going to bring in at the start. Many times you will not bring in a lot of traffic at first but some can so that is a big issue with web hosting.  Then you are going to need to figure out how much space you are going to need.  Will you be running a blog?  Will you be uploading pictures and allowing software to download?  When you figure out these two questions space and traffic then you need to estimate how much bandwidth you are going to use.  If you are not sure you will probably get by with a minimum account.

After you answer the above questions are answered you will have one more question. How many domains are you going to place on your web hosting.  Many times web hosting will offer unlimited domains but with many lower end web hosting options they will cap the amount from anywhere from 2-5 usually.  Once you have the answers to these questions you will be able to get the best web hosting that will best for your web sites.

What Amount of Hosting Do You Need?

Friday, March 27th, 2009

As people look into hosting bandwidth and space is available cheaper than most can imagine.  This can confuse many because they are not sure how much they actually need for their use.

So we are here today to talk about how to rationalize what you exactly need in web hosting.  After reading this you will be able to purchase a package that is inline in what you need.

First up is how big is your web site going to be.  At first your site is going to be smaller than you ever imagine.  I know you are thinking all those shinny graphics and video you want to put on your site.  But be realistic in web hosting first making those are harder than you can imagine and second you don’t want to make your website so big it is hard for people to download. Remember there are many on the internet still not on fast access.  Your website at biggest will probably be under 500k.  This let you purchase web space in line with your needs.

The next question is the amount of visitors you will get.  A goal of 1,000 visitors would be plenty.  This can be hard but done if you catch a break on the way.  After that you can just take your site size and use a 1,000 as your guideline and you can figure out the bandwidth you need.
For most it is less than they thought.  Now you can overlook those larger packages that you will not need when starting off.  Purchase enough to get started and to have some expansion and then upgrade your web hosting when the time is right.
